Our busy August lead to early September, and another family visit! This time Michel's mom and stepdad came to see us for a few days, and we got another chance to explore Maastricht with some fresh eyes.
It was a quick visit in Maastricht itself so we did the highlights.
We of course had to take them to the St. Pietersberg plateau. They took a tour of the Fort, but we skipped that since we'd already done that tour. The plateau is a great place to take a walk, which is what we did while they toured.
Then we met up and did the caves tour! This was our second time, but it's always different so we had to go too! This time we got to see the oldest painting in the caves, a scene at the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein (a square here in Maastricht).
The next day we took them on our new favourite bike route: to Chateau Neercanne, into Kannes, Belgium, and along the river back into Maastricht.
When we got to the Chateau, the gates were open! And the maintenance men beckoned us in, so why not? It was great to get an unobstructed view.
We also did the obligatory walk around the city from Wyck, to the Jeker River and city walls there, into the Vrijthof then the Markt.
And we had a nice sit in our favourite park along the river, in the sun with some drinks :) It's so nice that you can do that here.
It was a great couple of days and then the four of us headed off for a whirlwind trip to Luxembourg City! That's a whole post on its own because WOW, what a place!!
